He joined the East Tawas Fire Department in 1969 and has been chief since 1988. He has been a Michigan Fire Service Instructor since 1974 and also teaching driver safety using a driving simulator. Richard Choate has been representing Pierce Manufacturing since 1999 and has delivered all types of apparatus. Richard has a "keen eye for detail" and works closely with the customer to assure the finished apparatus meets the department's needs. Richards' customer base includes urban, suburban and rural areas and he has been able to design and deliver the appropriate apparatus for those departments. Richard will frequently make recommendations to the customer, but also reminds the customer that "this is their truck and asks them to talk about what is important to their department". Richard has thirty-four years of fire department experience which includes nine years volunteer/part-paid and twenty-five years with a career department. Richard has worked in all levels of the fire service and retired as a Battalion Chief. Richard is also a Paramedic and an Instructor-Coordinator, was a Director of a hospital owned EMS system and has been involved in radio communications, computer aided dispatch, fire station design and construction. Born and raised in Dearborn, Bruce eventually became a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Dearborn Fire Department. After serving on active duty in the USAF as Forward Air Controller/Joint Tactical Air Control/TACP, he returned to Michigan and joined the USAF Reserves as a Firefighter at Selfridge ANG Base in Mt. Clemens. Bruce also attended the Oakland Community College Fire Academy and was hired into Dearborn Fire. Retired from DFD in late 2011 as the Apparatus Supervisor (Battalion Chief) in-charge of the fleet and all equipment related to firefighting, Bruce's duties required writing specifications for apparatus and equipment and presenting proposal to administration and government leaders. He is very familiar and with fire apparatus and the mechanical features of them. He has had experience with all the major brands of apparatus over the many years and has learned thereβs always more to learn. Ted joined the Halt Fire training staff in 2016 to instruct chassis, pump maintenance and operations for new Pierce apparatus deliveries. As of June 2022, Ted has taught on over 50 departments in operational training from mini pumpers to aerials and industrial foam pumpers. He has also become certified as an instructor by the Renewable Fuels Association and now teaches foam operations classes, specializing the Pierce Husky 3 and Husky 12 foam systems. He has had a passion for teaching Fire Department water supply operations. Ted is also a career Firefighter/Paramedic with over 28 years of experience in the fire service. He has been involved with the specification and purchase of more than 20 emergency vehicles within and outside of his own department. Those apparatus range from light duty rescue trucks and ambulances to pumpers and pumper tankers. Coming from a suburban/rural fire department, he has made water supply operations his instructional passion. Throughout his career Ted has become certified as a Technician in many areas of technical rescue including confined space, rope, trench rescue and structural collapse. Tom retired from the Detroit Fire Department with 39 years of firefighting service. Tom was a senior member of the apparatus design committee where he was instrumental in developing specifications, reviewing proposals, inspecting and accepting nearly 100 different fire apparatus deliveries to the city of Detroit. Pat started his career in Public Safety in 1977 when he joined the Davison Fire Department just out of high school. In 1979 he formed a relationship with Halt Fire and Pierce Manufacturing with the truck he is pictured with, which is still in service. Being a Police Officer also, when the City of Kalamazoo combined their police and fire department to form Public Safety this appeared to be a natural fit. Pat started as a Fire Fighter and retired as Executive Lieutenant. Shortly after retiring, Pat was called back to Public Safety to serve as Assistant Chief.
